There are about 3 places that enhance the beauty of Galle Fort
3 beautiful places in Galle Fort
Galle Fort is a beautiful place.
This Galle Fort wall is a special place among local and foreign tourists. The
places I mention are a great help in increasing the tourist attraction here. The
first one
Clock tower
This has become a symbol
of Galle. This clock tower is also known as the tallest clock tower on the island. Built in 1883 by John Henry Landes, an engineer, in memory of Dr. Peter Daniel
Antonis, the first Sri Lankan to receive an F. R. C. P. medical degree from the
University of London. It is about 25 meters high.
The lighthouse
This is the first
lighthouse built in Sri Lanka. Before this lighthouse, there was another
lighthouse. It was on the Flag Rock Palace. After it was completely destroyed
by fire in 1936, the new lighthouse was completed in 1939 in white. This
lighthouse is still living today. This is currently administered
by the Ports Authority of Sri Lanka.
Old Dutch Hospital
Built on Galle Fort Hospital
Street, this beautiful building is now used for tourist shops. The building was
used as a hospital by the Dutch in the past. Therefore, the street where this
building is located was named Hospital Avenue. Britain also used it as a
hospital and later converted this building into the Government Agent's Office
and later into an administrative building in the 1920s. The building was later
used for various purposes. It was later renovated and, as it is seen today,
appointed and used for tourist shops.
